The food here is incredible... I mean, a lot of it is actually somewhat similar to Indonesian food, only a thousand times more flavourful! So I wanted to share with you a few of my favourite finds so far (I'm sure there will be more on this in future blogs):
Pad Thai
(*with a view)
Not what I was expecting, since it's not even remotely similar to the Pad Thai I've had in Thai restaurants at home (no peanut sauce!?), but delicious nonetheless. The variety of condiments included peanuts, dried chilis, chili sauce, vinegar, salt and shrimp paste...
Oh, and the coconut frosty drink that rounded out the meal...
Mango Sticky Rice
Absolutely decadent... yummy yummy yummy... Mom, I think you should come to Thailand just so you can eat this treat daily! They use perfectly ripe fragrant, delicious mangoes over a bed of sweet sticky rice, all doused in Coconut milk and sprinkled with roasted sesame and other seeds! This is the sticky rice queen at the market. She also serves up many other delicious, if odd-looking, concoctions.
I have no idea what this dinner dish was called... it was boneless chicken on a bed of yellow rice (one of my favourites in Indonesia) served with a few greens (including parsley... yum!). The best part was the light soup/broth that it was served with... I swear I tasted ginger in there, and I would guess the idea is that it's to aid digestion.
I can't wait to digest some more delicious Thai foods! Gabriela and I are planning to "sit and devour tons of spicy food"... so will no doubt have more to report after THAT!
